The Quantock Hills was the first area in Britain to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 50 years ago. Today the hills still retain the unique beauty that inspired The Romantic Poets to write some of their best-known poetry. This largely undiscovered area provides a very special place to walk and relax away from the pressures of daily life. A jigsaw of varied landscapes gives the Quantock Hills a distinctive appearance, to add to its unique history and culture. The undulating hills form a broad heather and whortleberry-clad ridge where beech hedgebanks mark out the ancient traders' routes to and from the West Country and breathtaking views of Wales can be seen across the Bristol Channel . On either side of the ridge many deep concealed coombes shelter the red deer under canopies of sessile oak and beech trees.
The Quantock hills are situated near the west coast of Somerset and within easy reach of Taunton and Bridgwater where good rail and motorway links make The Quantocks accessible for short and longer stays. Why not help the environment and reduce your carbon foot print by catching the train or a coach to Taunton or Bridgwater and we’ll pick you up from the station so you never have to drive during your holiday. If you do drive here you can leave your car safely parked at the first B&B and we’ll return you there at the end of your holiday.
